Pointing another ISP's parked domain to Afrihost servers

0 votes
I have a parked domain with Hetzner and would like to add it as an alias to one of my Afrihost hosting accounts. When I try add the alias in cPanel I get an error:

"There was an error when the system attempted to create the alias. Park::park(example.co.za) failed: (XID vmcwf4) Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver."

When I ask Hetzner to change the nameservers to point to Afrihost I get this error:

"The changes were not applied as one or more of the supplied nameservers are not configured for this domain"

What do I need to do to point another domain as an alias to my hosting?

The quickest way is to ask the other host to point the individual DNS records to the correct server ie point A or CNAME record of www.example.co.za and example.co.za to the server hosting it. point the MX record to the server hosting the email etc. This will mean the domain (and NS records) stays with the current host (Hetzner or whomever) and the DNS records are pointing to Afrihost.

It sounds like you were trying to point the NS records (nameserver) to Afrihost. To do this you would have to be setup on Afrihost's DNS servers as a parked(or hosted) domain even if the domain is not with us. In this way we would have setup the DNS records on our nameservers and you could point the NS records to our nameservers  If the nameservers are pointing to us then you can decide where to point the DNS records using your clientzone.

To give you an idea of how it works, when surfing for a web page.

NS with Afrihost - First we look at the TLD (.co.za) which tells us the NS records are with COZA.co.za , COZA.co.za says example.co.za NS records are with Afrihost. We then ask Afrihost where is www.example.co.za and it answers on 19x.xxx.xxx.xxx (perhaps an Afrihost server)

NS with Hetzner - First we look at the TLD (.co.za) which tells us the NS records are with COZA.co.za , COZA.co.za says example.co.za NS records are with Hetzner. We then ask Hetzner where is www.example.co.za and it answers on 19x.xxx.xxx.xxx (perhaps an Afrihost server)

errors -

"The changes were not applied as one or more of the supplied nameservers are not configured for this domain" -- Afrihost nameservers were not setup with DNS records for that domain

"There was an error when the system attempted to create the alias. Park::park(example.co.za) failed: (XID vmcwf4) Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver." - NS and DNS records are hosted at another server or provider and this machine cannot change them.

Hello Craig,

OPTION 1.

If you have a previously registered domain the process is very similar to that of the newly registered domain.
Upon signing up your domain with Afrihost.com (by choosing one of our packages) - you will be requested to select that either Afrihost.com does the transfer or that YOU do the transfer.

Choose the option that Afrihost does the transfer: This option enables us to complete the transfer process for you. We manage the DNS.
NOTE: the transfer of .co.za domain names are free, .com; .org; .net domains cost R150.00 once for the transfer.

However for none .co.za domains you can also get your current host to point the domain to our DNS servers:
ns.dns1.co.za
ns.dns2.co.za
ns.otherdns.com
ns.otherdns.net

You will be given access to our FTP server & Cpanel server so that you can publish your website & create your mail boxes (and databases if any) on our servers once you have signed up.
We can also setup a test URL (host header) so you can test the domain on our servers.

By the time the transfer has completed you should have already a working website & ready mailboxes on our servers.
Our support team and/or your developer will assist with any difficulties you may experience whilst uploading your website & databases.

OPTION 2.

Check to see which name servers are assigned to the domain name this subdomain name is associated with via a utility such as IntoDNS.com. Do the name servers utilized by the domain name correspond to IP addresses associated with the cPanel server, or is the DNS handled by a remote provider? If the DNS is handled by a remote provider, you can add those IP addresses under the "Remote Name Server IPs" tab in:

"WHM Home » IP Functions » Configure Remote Service IPs"

Thank you.
