Afrihost POP3 and SMTP doesn't work on other ISPs

When trying to send email using Windows Live Messenger, it doesn't work when not connected to Afrihost. I have had to set the SMTP server to so that I can receive email. Is there a way around this issue for the POP3?

The only way around using the specific ISP's smtp server is to use an encrypted connection to the email service providers smtp server.

e.g. for gmail -, SSL encryption, port 465.

When sending email through Afrihosts SMTP server and you are connected through an Afrihost account (ADSL) you don't need to authenicate against the Afrihost SMTP server because your DSL account has already authenticated you.  However, if you connect from another service provider, you will need to authenticate using your Afrihost account details.  To do this you should confiugure your mail client.
