Why does my speed drop every single night promptly at 6:00pm up until promptly at 11:00pm???

Well now you've (Afrihost) done it i.e. received yet another pathetic email from Customer Support (after my sending no less than three emails describing the problem) with the most inane response.

Maybe I'll get some joy here!!!

For about the last three weeks or so: the speed drops from around 45Mbps to around 3.5Mbps at EXACTLY 6:00pm at night right up until EXACTLY 11:00pm at night.  This tells me that between those times the service is being throttled / shaped.  This is NOT what I'm paying for i.e. my 330G per month is a capped service and I should NOT be subjected to this.  What's more: there are loads of people complaining about this!!!  See this link: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/959629-Rain-FIXED-LTE-crippled-now-due-to-Rain-mobile.  Do yourselves a favour and actually READ the thread / posts (mine is on the last page).

Is this going to be sorted out and when???

And please: do NOT get another Customer Service Representative to send me an email because they're useless and unable to understand the problem and / or couldn't really give a darn (and that's putting it mildly).  I now want Management to call and explain exactly what is going on here.

Like every other service provider in this country I guess i.e. start out just fine but it never lasts does it!!!  Except this time I'm not accepting this nonsense.  As noted in an email to Customer Service (to which I've yet to receive a response): ICASA, Hellopeter, Facebook, (and wherever else I can find) is next.

I have the exact same problem mine is the whole day at 1mbps were it use to be 20-30mbps  all they can say is to reset everything that still does not work
Consider yourself lucky. My speed is 0.01kbps.
I feel for you.  I really do.

But as noted in my comment below: it's official i.e. Rain is doing this.  Amazing is it not.  And at just between the times that most people actually need the throughput!!!  I don't know how or why they get away with it (these companies).  If they know full well ahead of time that they cannot provide the service then why are they allowed to punt it in the first place.  Take a look at My Broadband (the forums).  I'm having a field day over there!!!  But from what I gather: this all started when Rain decided to offer some or the other "great deal" (as I understand it: basically GIVING away data for a certain period to lure new customers and, of course, the usual, existing customers have to suffer, who cares).

I was one of those who got the 660 Gig at the beginning of the deal, but since then have never hit the Cap. Yet every night from between 6 and 11 there is loss up to 50% and latency between 200ms to 800ms, rendering just about everything useless. Nothing functions well, if at all. Afrihost, RAIN told me in an email "Networks are congested, contact your ISP for a solution." so are you going to offer me the CellC LTE at the same rate as the RAIN 660 Gig? This is what I signed up for, not throttling.
Same issue here, pathetic service from RAIN on fixed LTE...
You must be in Stellenbosch.  I had the same problem since all the students arrived.  they have over sold the product in Stellenbosch.  Sad.  I cancelled my product immediately.  Now I will be trying CellC.

sounds like there is congestion on the network at those specific times. Everyone is getting online at that time.
afrihost cant throttle or shape the rain network as they dont have access to it.

Nope.  Nothing to do with congestion.  And it's not Afrihost.  Found all of this out since starting this message thread.  Rain is shaping / throttling between 6:00pm and 11:00pm.  They made an official announcement about it.  Take a look at the Rain threads on My Broadband.  This affects not only Afrihost but VOX, AXXESS, and any other ISP punting the Rain network.  Nice huh!!!  And, of course, we're stuck with it (either that or you end up paying through your "you-know-what" to the likes of Vodacom.  Where Afrihost (and the others) are at fault: there was NO mention of this when signing up (and actually it was fine for the first few weeks i.e. until about the middle of June).  As usual: we're at the mercy of the whole lot of them.  And nobody gives a sh*t especially not all of these agencies put in place to protect the consumer i.e. they're nowhere to be found on these issues.

Good day,

This is true, the speeds are dropping around that time because it is peak hours and the network is experiencing congestion.
It would seem a lot of people are connecting to the RAIN towers in your area at these times. This is a RAIN issue and Afrihost most definitely are not shaping or throttling your account as we have no control over the RAIN network, we are a reseller of RAIN.

We do sincerely apologize.

Well that's fine.  We've EVENTUALLY managed to ascertain that it's NOT Afrihost.  Doesn't help anybody though now does it.  Afrihost (and others) is still punting the Rain product.  Are you telling new customers that "hey: it's a great product but don't expect to be able to watch HD between 6:00pm and 11:00pm at night"???  No question in my mind that you're not.  It is Afrihost (and the rest) that should be putting pressure on Rain to sort their sh*t out otherwise you're all going to stop punting their network.

Perfectly said Dale, I am a fairly Large Afrihost Resseller. With over 100+ Rain Lte packages sold to my customers.

Afirhost gave me the most pathetic explanation.

Why was this not even mentioned at afrihost or other ISPs...

I don't understand the TERM congested network from 6pm till 11pm. Rain has MORE THAN ENOUGH capacity providing at least 4 - 8mb/s in these times. 1MB/s is just ridiculous.

Hope RAIN provides a better solution.
