Why is my broadband connection so slow

I use a CPE device installed by Vuka Aerial (at the request of Afrihost)

I use a DLink WiFi router supplied by Afrihost.

I subscribe for premium fibre (100Mbps download/10Mbps upload).  I have no laptop or PC in my home so all devices are connected to Router via WiFi.

Average connection speed 3.8Mbps (tested over a week long period from multiple devices and at multiple times - approximately 100 tests in total)

Why then is it that I get only 3.8Mbps.  Afrihost says it is because of the cofigurataiton of my home.  This is odd as the tests were conducted within 1 meter from the router and with direct line of sight.  

Any one else having these problems?  Is this just a rip off?

3.8mbps on a 100mbps connection is terrible, I do apologise for this. If you’re using WiFi, you might find that your router and internet are fine, but your wireless signal is weak, causing a slowdown. In that case, you may need to reposition, tweak, and boost your router with a few tricks

 

Here are a few things you can try to sort out the issue.

1. Reset your router to default settings

2. Find the perfect spot for your router

3. Find the right wireless channel

4. Get rid of interference from other appliance. Cordless phones, microwaves, and other appliances can muck with your signal as well.

 

If the problem persists, I suggest that you contact Afrhost support via WhatsApp, email or a phone call.
