Do I need to get MetroFibre to install their ONT Modem before switching to Afrihost?

Good Evening,

I am currently an Afrihost ADSL client and have been for many years now.

Metro Fibre is currently busy installing Fibre in our complex and has installed a termination point at my unit for free. I however would like to know if i would need to pay their activation fee, get them to install their ONT modem and subscribe with them for a couple of months before moving to Afrihost as my ISP or how does it work? If i do not get them to install their ONT, then how would i connect because the D-Link you guys give with every Fibre subscription is only a router and not a modem?

I would also like to buy a more spec'd router, e.g. Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000, and would like to find out how this would fit in the whole picture. Sorry if these questions seem naive, I am a little unsure when it comes to the whole Fibre connectivity thing.

Thanking you in advance and looking forward to your reply.

Good Day

Providers only open orders when the area is fully installed will appear faster than providers who make signup available when they are earlier in the roll-out phase.

The install time is based on the time an order is placed with us and the final installation on the premises. It does not include activation, as these processes do not always run concurrently. After signing up it is then that an ONT will be installed in your home.

You are able to purchase your own modem but unfortunately, you will not be credited for the one we give for free, and you will still be bound to the 6 months period as we are covering the installation.

To sign up for fibre, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Afrihost Fibre microsite.
  2. Click on the ‘Sign up Now!’ button in the navigation bar.
  3. You’ll be taken to the Fibre Availability Map.
  4. Enter the address where you would like Fibre to be installed and press enter to search the map.
  5. Click on the ‘Check Fibre Availability’ button.
  6. Select your preferred Fibre Network.
  7. Choose your Fibre Experience.
  8. Next, choose your preferred Fibre connection speed.
  9. You will see a summary of your selected Fibre package. Once you are happy with your selection, click on the ‘Order Now’ button.
  10. You’ll be redirected to the Afrihost Order Form to complete the order process.
