I have an Android phone that keeps reverting to MTN APN settings

+1 vote
I have a Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace Neo (2016) that I bought from takealot.com and the MTN SIM I bought from the local MTN shop keeps reverting to the MTN APN setting, which I can’t delete or edit. I put the same SIM in an iPhone and it didn’t have the problem.

I tried turning off auto updates in case updates were messing with the APN settings but almost as soon as I gave it to the employee who uses it, it did it again.

Afrihost support claims it is not the SIM but the phone and suggests flushing it but I am not sure if this is good for the sewerage system. Even if this does sound like a good idea because every time this happens, it chews airtime really fast.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Good Day,

As you have an MTN sim card it will auto revert back to the MTN APN settings.
To use Afrihost mobile data you need an Afrihost SIM card and then you can change the settings to the Afrihost APN.

You can sign up for one of these amazing mobile packages below

Sorry but I am NOT impressed. I have asked Afrihost support numerous times for a solution to this and one thing I SPECIFICALLY asked is if I can get an Afrihost SIM and got no answer on that.

All I actually need to know is: how do I get an Afrihost SIM card?
You can sign up for an Afrihost sim card online or you can come to our HQ in Johannesburg, Rivonia to collect one, or if you are an existing Afrihost client you can sign up via your ClientZone (https://clientzone.afrihost.com)

To sign up online, simply select the package option that best suits your needs and follow the easy signup steps.

Mobile Pre-Paid Packages (select your own airtime & data) - https://www.afrihost.com/site/product/prepaid/mobile_prepaid

Mobile Data ONLY packages- https://www.afrihost.com/site/product/mobile_data

Mobile Package (predefined airtime and data plans) - https://www.afrihost.com/landing/mobile/

To Sign up via ClientZone

* Log in to Client zone: https://clientzone.afrihost.com
* Select mobile
* Select Sign up for a new mobile package on the left-hand side
* This will take you to our mobile page, scroll down and select the mobile package you want
* This will take you to the cart to confirm your package and select next step.

Whether having the sim card delivered or collected you will need to present your RICA documents.
All sim cards must be RICA'd as its the law.

These documents include:

* Bank Statement or Municipal Bill (not older than 3 months)
* Cellphone or Retail Account (not older than 3 months)
* Existing lease, Rental or Credit Agreement (Valid for the current Year)
* Insurance Policy (Valid for the current Year)
* Current TV or Motor Vehicle License document that includes your name and residential address (Valid for the current Year)

* Green bar‑coded ID document
* Smart ID
* Temporary ID certificate issued by Home Affairs
* Passport

A driver's license is NOT an acceptable form of ID for RICA.
Sorry this is STILL not super helpful as I am already signed up for a package. Is there no way to get an Afrihost SIM sent to me without signing up for a new package?
If you already have signed up for a package then the sim card will be sent to the delivery address you supplied us with.
If you would like a new sim card, then you will need to sign up for the new sim card package and it will be dispatched to you thereafter.
All sim cards that are dispatched need to be RICA'd.
