I am on line but cannot send e-mail.Is it a setting?

We have a Netgear N300.Telkom

We have the MTN toggle from Afrihost

We can receive but not send.

Afternoon José,

When you switch to an Afrihost ADSL or Mobile Data connection, you will need to update your SMTP server on any mail clients that you are using on that connection to facilitate the outgoing mail being sent.

On our connections, you have two choices, you can either make use of smtp.afrihost.co.za or smtp.mtnbusiness.co.za.

Either option will work, and should see the mail being sent sucessfully.

When you send mail, you generally use one of these to send it ...

  • Use your ISP's mail server (e.g. smtp.afrihost.co.za)
  • Use authentication, and the SMTP server that shipped with your mailbox
  • Use webmail (e.g. gmail, yahoo, etc.)

If you cannot send mail, then the relevant information is:

  • Which SMTP server are you using
  • What is the sender e-mail address
  • What is the recipient e-mail address
  • What happens (e.g. some error message, message disappears without trace, etc)
  • When did you last try this (date and time)

Usually, by the time you finish gathering those bits of information you have figured the problem out.
