Two MTN fixed LTE contracts, both not working

0 votes

After migrating to MTN fixed LTE from CellC Fixed LTE back in november all worked perfectly for a few weeks.

I have two sims/routers which I use at home connected to a firewall for load-balancing/failover and logging purposes. I have removed the firewall to do all testing and troubleshooting with a cable directly plugged into each router.

Both routers are B618 devices, both routers had/have full 4G+ signal and work perfectly with other sim cards on the normal MTN 4G network.

On december 9th, Router 1 stopped sending and recieving TCP network traffic, but still had full LTE signal! Only ICMP traffic like ping and traceroute would work.

I rebooted Router 1 on the 19th of December, where it worked normally for a few hours before being unable to connect to 4G network and saying "router profile invalid"

I logged a support case over this ( NFC-470-52218 ) which is still ongoing.

As of the 30th of December my 1st MTN Fixed LTE contract is still reporting "No service" and "Connection failed. The profile is invalid. Please contact your service provider."

The profile on this router was working perfectly back in november, APN is still ws.afrihost.fwa with a blank username and password.

The router is forced to 4G network.

I am unable to manually assign the router to the MTN 4G network when using "network search: manual" under (network settings) -> (network search), when trying to manually assign it to the MTN network the router gives a popup saying "failed"

I have since factory reset the router and tried the above again, still not working.

My 2nd router started with the same problem on the 27th of december at around 6:30 pm, leaving me without an internet connection at home.

I can ping and traceroute to 8.8.8.8 - but I am unable to send or recieve any TCP traffic.

The profile on this router was working perfectly beforehand and no settings were changed (I was actually on a skype call when it stopped working), APN is still ws.afrihost.fwa with a blank username and password.

The router is forced to 4G network.

Router has full LTE+ 4G signal, and the router works perfectly with a normal MTN sim card if I set the apn back to "internet"

I have tested both routers with multiple devices, phone, laptop, desktop, smart-fridge, etc. - They can all ping and traceroute and perform DNS lookups, but are unable to connect to anything which uses TCP like HTTP, HTTPS, skype, SSH, IMAP, etc.

I suspect there is something to do with tower mapping / blocked devices being all screwed up, but I'm not really sure of the inner working of the afrihost fixed LTE APN.

If someone from afrihost would be able to help with this, I'd be quite happy.to have my internet working again.

Router 1 has been 3 weeks without proper connectivity.

Router 2 has now been 3 days.

Hi Nino,

As I mentioned:

"I logged a support case over this ( NFC-470-52218 ) which is still ongoing."

I am still waiting for feedback on this.
