DSL line extensions

There is an existing DSL line in the main house and I am in the adjoining granny flat,  I would like to sign up for capped package for the main house and granny flat as soon as possible but need clarification about line extensions and sharing one line is needed.  Should I install a second line?

You don't need a second line. What you would need is an extender in the granny's flat that would pick up the wifi signal from the router in the main house and feed the granny's flat with internet via wifi or cable. Most of the extenders can pick up wifi signal 50m from the house. Alternatively you can get a Network Administrator to create the network for you.
