Why doesn't Afrihost offer a FTTH product like other ISP's ?

I'm currently an afrihost customer and I couldn't be happier with them. Now the problem is ftth just arrived in my area and i'm an early adopter so I will be in on that asap, but I'm quite disappointed that will mean i have to leave afrihost. And this 24 month contract that MTN are forcing is not cool but what else can we do. Seeing that Afrihost is partly owned by MTN you would think they would be the 1st isp providing ftth especially considering their already huge clientbase, but hey what do I know. If Afrihost could just put out a statement that they will be in ftth in the next 6-12 months i might even postpone and wait for them cos i really don't want to be locked into a 24 month contract with mtn!

Hi Grant

Fibre is still relatively new and it's not really a good yardstick to measure the overall performance or innovation. There are so few areas that can benefit from fibre, and the cost of fibre (especially on a 1:1 ratio) is only accessible to a select (wealthy) few. Afrihost have always focussed on delivering great value, to as many people as possible, and I think when there is an opportunity to do so with FTTH, they probably jump on that.

Afrihost is probably also waiting for MTN to launch their FTTH products?
